Critiquing the Review of The Aledan

My first novel The Aledan has received exactly four reviews, two from volunteers when I requested ARC reviews. Then there were two other reviews, one said it was a good read and gave it five stars.  The other gave it one star because it was "NOT my thing." I was kind of annoyed with that one because I'm guessing they probably don't like romance novels. That lousy one star review gave my book an overall rating of only three stars. The point is that the one star reviewer gave no reason why the book was not his/her thing, basically telling the world my beloved first novel was not worth bothering to read.

I've done a few ARC reviews myself.  I like doing them because I get to read new stuff for free, but I only review the kind of fiction I like which is romance and scifi romance. If I have a problem with the book, I usually won't publish a review and just send the author an email with constructive criticism. One that I didn't like was a series where the story was not a standalone. So much time was spent setting the stage, which was quite fascinating, that the romance barely started and the story was over.

The following is one of my four reviews for The Aledan:

"I tried out this book, not knowing what to expect. But it left me a bit confused as to what to think about it. So I decided just to name all the good points and the things that could be better (in my opinion) and hopefully that will help people decide. I do like where the writer is going in general.

Good points:
I like the world, the story has lot of background which is revealed along the way. Off course psychic humans aren't new, but I like the cultural interaction. The book focuses more on the cultural aspects and problems then on technology, which is nice. It's a romance, the connection between the characters is nice. The story line itself is good though. The relationship and it's problems develop not to fast.

Downsides:
The writing style is really not my favorite. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly, but it feels a bit as if she states everything instead of letting the story speak for itself. I.e. she states all feelings the characters have. Hankura said this, Hankura felt this, Hankura noticed his body doing this etc. It feels forced. As a result I found it hard to get with the characters and believe their feelings. This makes the romance a bit abrupt. I have to add it also felt like it wasn't a really balanced couple, but that may be just a pet peeve of mine."

This is a well thought out and detailed review.  I honestly thought the good points outweighed the criticism enough to give the book three stars instead of two. Telling what each character felt and thought was partly to illustrate how Hankura and Chelle were privy to each other's thoughts and feelings through the psionic bond of their minds. I may have overdone that a bit.

I'm not sure how the romance seemed abrupt because from the time they made that first mind connection, I thought I'd made it clear that Chelle pretty much idolized Hankura though not in so many words. By the time he came to Earth to find her, they had already fallen in love through their shared dreams.

The reviewer was right on point that they were not really a balanced couple in that Chelle was not Hankura's equal. He had completed physician level by the time he returned to find her.  She was an uneducated woman of the streets in dystopian Faringay. But their relationship continues to evolve throughout the series until she becomes his intellectual equal.

While I would wish this reviewer would have given it a better overall rating, I appreciate that it appears well thought out and that they took the time to write it. It makes some valid points. It gave specifics on why they liked it and why they didn't.

When I go on Amazon to buy books from authors I haven't read before, I don't just read the 4-5 star reviews, I read the 1-2 star reviews as well. Just because someone didn't like a book doesn't mean I won't, but I like to know why the reviewer doesn't like it. Sometimes what they don't like is exactly why I would like it.

I do the same thing when I am reviewing a book. If I have read the whole book and enjoyed it I give it a good review. Sometimes reviewers just don't like how a story plays out. That observation is probably one of the biggest reasons I became a writer in the first place. I wanted to make stories that would proceed and conclude on my terms.

Selling them on Amazon is a whole other story. For anyone who is interested the Aledan Series has just been re-edited for publication in paperback and the second Kindle edition.

However, I caused some kind of glitch in revising Psi Factor so that it inserted duplicate paragraphs throughout the manuscript.  Anyone who purchased the Box set or the Psi Factor with the errors, contact me at crisane1@gmail.com with a copy of the receipt and I will provide a corrected copy of that book. A corrected copy will be uploaded within the next seven days.

Proof Reading

I dread proof reading have never been good at proof reading my own work, but when you are self publishing on a shoe string like I am, you need to get good at it.

I just finished proofing the hard copy of my second Aledan novel Journey of the Searching Star that I am preparing to go live on CreateSpace. When I revised the manuscript last year, I only had a hard copy of the manuscript that I could use.  So I used the Windows voice recognition program to dictate it into the computer. Years of keyboarding on the job and for my writing have resulted in repetitive stress injuries to my hands.

Reading aloud from the manuscript meant I was not looking at the screen, so I missed a lot of wrong words that sounded like what I was saying. Spell checker does not catch those kind of mistakes. Even though I proofed the manuscript two times, I still didn't discover all of them as I learned this time through the hard copy proof of the book. I found many more typos and wrong words than I ever expected---to my chagrin.

However, I find I am not alone in the quest for an error free manuscript. I have found numerous typos in books by far more successful authors than I. When possible, it is especially helpful to have someone else proof your work because it's much easier to find simple errors in works that are not your own.

That said, the best way for me to do it is to read it as though I'm reading it aloud one word at a time. It's not fool proof, but it helps.

Because of the numerous errors in the second Aledan novel I will be re-editing the rest of the series and releasing new editions of each as well as the box set. Anyone who bought it previously should be able to access the revised editions.

Why I Switched Back to KDP Select on Amazon

Over the past month, sales of my Aledan Series are not happening. On advice from other blogs I tried issuing my eBook series on Smashwords and Kobo.  In six months I had exactly one sale on Smashwords. In order to publish with other organizations Amazon does not allow your book to be read by Kindle Unlimited subscribers. In addition, I discovered that while excluded from KDP select, I could no longer arrange giveaways for any of the series.

Previous giveaways actually sparked a few sales, particularly of my box set of all four Aledan Novels at $1.99. Otherwise, I have plugged the series on Google, Facebook and Twitter as well as my own websites. But sales just aren't happening.

Now I know my writing is not terrible even though everyone doesn't like my style. Enough people have told me they like my books to make me believe they are saleable. So I can only think they are not being found by the people who enjoy this type of story. Or they may not read eBooks. For that reason I am working on making them available in paperback through CreateSpace. KDP is now offering print on demand paperbacks, but have not yet begun to offer proof copies and author copies.

Once one has tried publishing and marketing their own work, it becomes clear why it is so hard to get commercial publishers to buy your book and do all the rest of the work of editing and marketing. If they pick wrong, they don't get any return on their investment.

While I am still waiting to make a profit, my investment hasn't caused any financial hardship. I've kept my prices low to encourage people to give my books a try. Now that they are back on KDP select, I am offering the box set of all four novels FREE for everybody Nov. 4-7.

Jamerin - Chapter Three (The Aledan's Children - First Draft)

R Rated for Sexual Content

Note: Additional material changed the chapter divisions. The events in this chapter follow those originally presented as Chapter Four

To some, life on a tramp freighter might seem mundane, but not to Jamerin.  Life was good out in space regardless of the routine.  It was actually a quiet life for the most part, navigating from planet to planet, buying and selling goods, picking up and letting out passengers, moving goods for other companies to fulfill orders on schedule.
The job was way beneath his and Parei’s intellect as it only took a few months to learn a job that required a four-year apprenticeship. Jamerin and Parei took the rest of the time to learn maintenance and repair of their ship and to study other ships in their size and weight class to prepare for when they got their own ship.
They still had plenty of down time to explore many new facets of each other---sharing memories, hopes and dreams---making love. Their favorite place to be alone was small lounge on the uppermost deck dubbed the Star Lounge because of large port window from deck to ceiling that gave a panoramic view of space.  It was no secret that they would often slip up to the Star Lounge to make love. They weren’t the only ones.  That’s why there was a thick soft pad on the floor in front of the window.
Jamerin sat cross legged on the deck staring out the port window into space, stars and distant galaxies as far as he could see. The number must be infinite, he thought. It made him feel minute, knowing he would only ever see a tiny fraction of them. Sometimes he wondered what his one life could mean in the sheer vastness of the universe. But then, did it really matter?
Parei was coming. When they were together, she was his universe and he hers. As he sensed she was nearing the portal, he stood expectantly. The door slid open and Parei stepped inside and set privacy lock. She stood there for several moments just looking at him and a wave of pure love washed into his mind. He smiled, basking in her tenderness and drinking in her physical beauty. His love for her flowed into her mind and she smiled back at him, admiring his elegantly defined musculature.
They stepped toward each other at the same time. Jamerin held out his hands palms up and Parei put her hands into his. He drew her close. She looked up at him, her lips parted slightly inviting his kiss.  He lowered his mouth to hers slowly until their lips melded together lightly. In their months together they had learned to savor each other physically---each kiss each caress.
Jamerin held her face in his hands. She slid her arms around his waist and leaned into him, pressing her soft breasts against the firm muscles of his chest. He pressed soft little kisses over her face then came back to her lips and took them in a deep fiery kiss. They moaned together in at the exquisite sensations blazing through their bodies and minds.
They continued kissing long and slow while they worked at the fastenings of each other’s clothing. Parei’s shirt was first to go.  Jamerin filled his hands with her lovely breasts, flicking her tight nipples with his thumbs. Her delight in the in his touch sent a surge of desire straight to her core and echoed back to him.
His shirt was next to disappear. Parei ran her hands up over his pecks to his shoulders and his arm then leaned in to kiss the middle of his chest as he stroked her bare back. She licked and kissed a path to one male nipple and then the other. Jamerin sucked in his breath and raked his lower lip with his teeth. His cock seemed to grow even harder as she unfastened his trousers and pushed them town over his hips. She gripped the shaft in her hand and dragged her slick tongue down the center of his six-pack to his belly button. She pressed the tip of her tongue in and out of the crevice until he groaned aloud.
Parei knelt in front of him on the soft floor pad and paused to admire the length and thickness of his engorged manhood. She considered how she enjoyed the feel of him inside her and kissed the tip laving off the bit of pre-cum collecting there. She kissed and stroked the head with her tongue then dragged it up and down the length of his shaft.  His cock was so big; she could only fit the head in her mouth so she worked the shaft with her hand while she caressed the head with her tongue sucked on it alternately.
“Ah Parei!” he murmured hoarsely as he watched her give him head.  He could feel his climax building at the base of his spine. He was torn between letting her bring in to release or stopping her so he could release inside her.
We will get to that my love. Let me give you this now.
He grinned as the thought whispered into his mind and gave himself into it. You are next. He promised silently and then he came filling her mouth with his hot juice. His mind reeled with the magnificent sensations of pleasure as she swallowed his cum and laved the head of his cock. For a few seconds his satisfaction overwhelmed his sense of her enjoyment of pleasing him. When his orgasm finished she caressed his flaccid manhood with the softness of her cheek.
Then she pushed his trousers the rest of the way to the floor so he could step out of them and slip off the soft shoes he wore whenever he was off duty. He took her gently by her upper arms and pulled her up to hug her close, stroking her long silky hair and filling her mind with his love. He always thrilled at the love she sent back to him. It was more profound than any words could express.
They held each other for several minutes sharing their feelings, kissing and caressing.  As Jamerin felt her desire building, he unfastened her pants and pushed them to the floor, kneeling before her.  When she stepped out of them, he bent to kiss the tops of her feet.  He planted hot kisses up her leg to the apex of her thighs and gently parted the hair over her nerve center and swiped his tongue over her clit a couple times then moved higher to her belly button.  He lingered there forning it with his tongue until she started to squirm. He liked making her squirm and moan for him. He liked that she enjoyed it too.
Parei gasped, sensing his intention to pleasure her breasts and relished the clenching of her inner walls in anticipation. Her whole body clamored in ecstasy as his mouth closed over her nipple and he sucked on it, alternately flicking his tongue over the hard bud. Without words he urged her to lie down on the floor pad with him to give him better access to her body.
He suckled her nipples until she was on the verge of climax then he moved down to the core of her sex.  He deliberately bypassed her clit to draw out her pleasure by licking the juices from her slit. Finally, he went to her clit and kissed it, sucking gently. Then he teased it with his tongue until he came, screaming her release and bucking her hips with each contraction of her inner walls.  He lapped her clit intermittently until he sensed she was finish then he crawled up beside her and held her, kissing her mouth tenderly. Their tastes of each other mingled pleasantly together on their tongues.
By then, Jamerin was hard again with the urge to have Parei beneath him.  He rolled them over so he was atop her and she opened her thighs fully willing to accept his superior position.  His hard cock slid easily into her caressing her inner walls and hitting her G-spot. She relished the weight of him on top of her and the exquisite sensation of his magnificent shaft filling her.
In reality he dominated her only by position as he was giving her the pleasure she craved. He was hers and she was his, and they were one mind and body. Their desire took them high in the fountain of their love to ecstasy in their climax and held them there as they writhed in satisfaction. Then it brought them back down to the water’s surface for them float in the afterglow still joined, kissing and touching in gratitude for the rapture of their fornication as the universe looked on.  Quite a heady experience indeed.
     Finally exhausted, they slept.
Sometime later, Jamerin woke to Parei nuzzling and kissing his neck and a rock hard erection. Sensing his need for relief, she took the upper position and straddled his hips poised to lower her slick channel over his shaft. Jamerin groaned and she murmured her pleasure as she sank over his member to the hilt.  She leaned down and kissed his lips then started to move her slippery warmth up and down over his cock.
He gripped her buttocks, gently squeezing them and fingering her rear opening.  They quickly established a sensual rhythm so that he would thrust upward as she sank down over him. As he felt his release building he moved his hands to her breasts and tweaked her taut peaks bringing her heat level with his. She whimpered at the delicious sensation that quickly heightened her. He loved giving her pleasure and sensing her joy in their mating.  Momentarily she shuddered and cried out as her inner walls contracted around his shaft and that was enough to make him cum as well.
Parei collapsed and lay heavily on his chest, holding him inside her. Pure love resonated between their minds as Jamerin hugged her tightly. She was everything he could ever have dreamed in a lover and he sensed that she felt exactly the same about him.  Such was the way between psi-mates.  They were two halves of a whole.
They were just considering getting up when a sense of dark foreboding burst through their minds. In that moment they felt the ship shudder.  They knew immediately Sential Trader was being fired upon.
Trouble! They both concluded at the same time.  Captain Otian and Jake were both worried and angry. The two lovers separated regretting the interruption of their afterglow just a little as they quickly pulled on their clothes.  They smelled of sex, but there was no time to shower.  But it was no great secret what they did during their rec time.  Certain crew members might smirk behind their hands but no one would say anything.

Jamerin and Parei were on the bridge within five minutes during which the ship’s shields took another hit.  Jamerin stood looking into the view screen, hands over his hipbones, and focused mentally on the two ships in front of them. He felt an overwhelming sense of menace. He looked at Jake, the only other psion on the ship beside him and Parei.  “Pirates,” they said almost in unison.            “They want our ship and our cargo and they don’t mind killing us all to get it.” Jamerin added.       “Can we jump?”
“Not before they get close enough to do real damage,” Norsen said from the pilot console.  “We need five more minutes, and they’ll be in range in two.”
“Our weapons are no match for two marauders,” Captain Otian said.
Jamerin frowned thoughtfully for several seconds trying to decide the best way to handle things. He didn’t want to kill anyone if he didn’t have to, but it was well within his power to do so.  He could destroy their minds with the strength of his telepathy or he could use telekinesis to blow up their ships. If his fellow crew members witnessed him doing that, it would scare the hell out of them.
Why don’t we just make Sential Trader disappear? Parei suggested.
Jamerin grinned at his mate.  He had been overthinking the situation.  Great idea!  You convince the people, and I will convince their scanners.
Parei closed her eyes and probed about 200 people in to ship, pulling their minds into harmony with hers. She gave them a vision of the Sential Trader jumping into hyperspace. Jamerin manipulated their scanners to make the Trader’s blip disappear. That gave Norsen time to complete the checklist and bring the hyperdrive back on line while Jake set the next jump coordinates. They jumped right after that.
Jake was grinning as Otian asked, “What did you two just do?”
“We just made them and their scanners believe we weren’t really here,” Parei admitted. “There were only a couple Tregans aboard.”
“She convinced the pirates, and I convinced the scanners,” Jamerin said.
“Goddess!” Otian murmured, shaking his head. Then he stared at the young couple almost as if he had never seen them before---and he was Parei’s stepfather who helped raise her. He suddenly realized how potentially dangerous the two of them could be.  It scared him more than a little.
Parei went to stand in front of him.  Although he was a Normal, he could see the hurt in her somber gaze.  Daddy, no one here has any reason to fear us. We’re all family here.  Remember, Hankura said we are all from the light---the good guys.
Otian nodded and moved in to hug her.  “I remember.  It’s just kind of spooky what you two can do.”
“Space, that was basically a parlor trick,” Jamerin chuckled, thinking that if most people knew the true extent of what they could do, they would be terrified. “We were trained by Mesgar never to use our abilities for harm or personal gain.”
“Right,” Otian nodded as Parei slid from his embrace. “I’m glad it was that simple. I will contact the Federation to let them know those pirates are lying in wait at that jump point. Most tramp freighters don’t have a couple high end psions to use ‘parlor tricks’ to escape.”
“They need to make it a priority,” Parei said.
“Those pirates planned to kill the whole crew and space us then take our ship.” Jamerin added.
“I’m glad I didn’t know that before,” Otian frowned.  “But we’re fine now.  Go back to your recreating.” Otian actually winked at them.
Jamerin laughed as he headed off the bridge with Parei joining him. Now you know why I have never shared the extent of my abilities.  It scares Normals and even some psions. From what my father always told me, Normals on Aledus think all psions can do the things we can---but they can’t.
Because we have such great power it was drilled into us that we have a great responsibility to use it honorably and compassionately.  Parei added.
“And we almost always have,” he said.
“Except for that one time when we were kids,” she giggled. They had learned their lesson.

After the pirate incident, Jamerin and Parei kept it to themselves if they used their abilities to help people.  Knowing what his parents went through on Aledus because of Normals’ fear of psions they decided it would be safer for them.
A little over a year into their journey Jamerin and Parei were awakened in the middle of their sleep period.  Fear, apprehension, hopelessness and despair. I don’t want to be a slave! How can we find someone to help us when we don’t even know where we are?  Goddess, someone help us please!
Parei woke first and sat up, then Jamerin woke sensing his mate’s distress.  Although he couldn’t see in their darkened cabin, he knew there were tears running down her cheeks.  “I felt it, too, love. But I can’t tell where it’s coming from.” He frowned and then groped for his tablet on the stand beside their bunk.  It came on and lit up as soon as he touched it.  He used it to check the ship’s status and location and discovered they were approaching orbit of a planet called Keylora.  They were awaiting ground clearance to land and exchange cargo and pick up a passenger.
Parei laid back down beside him so she could see the tablet too. Looking over his shoulder, Parei said, “They have to be down there.  We have to help them.  Slavery may be legal where they are being taken but it’s not legal in any Federation Sector.”
“It shouldn’t be legal anywhere,” Jamerin asserted.  “We probably will be on our own.  Starport Enforcers won’t search without warrant and our say so is not going to get them a warrant.”
“How are we going to help them then?”
“I’m not sure yet.”  He set his tablet back on the stand and urged Parei to lie with her head on his shoulder. “We will just have to figure it out as we go along.  Meanwhile, we need to block out their pain so we can get some more sleep. We need to be rested and alert if we are going to do this.”
Sential Trader was landed and docked at the Keylora Starport by the time their sleep period was over.  Fortunately, they were not on cargo duty this landing. The droid lifts would be doing the work and one of the other junior crew members was overseeing the process.  Jamerin and Parei didn’t bother with first meal in the dining room.  They showered and dressed quickly and disembarked immediately.
Walking along the loading docks, they opened their minds to the captives again trying to locate their ship. It didn’t take long to find the source of twenty desperate minds seven docking berths from Trader.  The entrance ramp was guarded by two burly men with shock sticks as only non-lethal weapons were allowed in port. While the shock sticks normally wouldn’t kill most humanoids, they sure could hurt.
The two guards looked and felt suspicious of Jamerin and Parei as they stopped in front of their ship entrance. After their initial suspicions, Jamerin caught one of them thinking what a nice profit Parei would make as she was very attractive. Jamerin sucked in his breath and fought to remain calm. Even the thought of them trying to take Parei made him want to hurt them.
Parei didn’t think highly of their musings either.  The two made a concerted effort to ignore the thugs, and Jamerin took out his tablet and opened it, for them to huddle over.  While they appeared to be searching for some information, they let their minds reach out to find how many crew members were on board and where they were located.  While they didn’t sense him, they knew from reading the other six crew members that the one guarding the females was a Tregan fugitive. They also learned the women were kept in a large cell off the cargo hold.
The Tregan guard was a problem, because they would not be able to sense where he was, nor could they used telepathy to “convince” him to let the women go. We have to go in.
Parei nodded.  You take the guard on the left and I’ll take the one on the right.
With that, Jamerin put his table t away and they started up the entrance ramp to the slave ship.  They simply made the guard blind to them just like they did with the pirate ship and walked right by them.  Having studied a variety of freighters, they were somewhat familiar with the layout of the slave ship.  After only a couple of wrong turns, they found the section where the captives were housed and the hulking Tregan with a highly lethal and illegal ion pistol guarding the door.
“Who are you and what the hell do you want?” the Tregan demanded in Galactic common, reaching for his weapon. But his weapon was already in Jamerin’s hand, pointing at his massive chest.
“It doesn’t matter who we are,” Jamerin said in the same language.  “We’ve come for the women.  Open the door.”
     I can’t,” he said.
     “Can’t or won’t?”
I don’t have the code.  Only Destin can open it and he’s off ship,” Tregan answer with a worried looked. Perhaps that was because Jamerin’s expression made him think the Aledan’s son wanted to kill him.
Jamerin was in fact imagining shooting him down in cold blood. While he didn’t know all the details, he knew it was men like this one who tortured his parents on Zevus Mar and killed many of their friends.  A Tregan like him almost killed his father on the way to Velran thirteen years before.
But no. Jamerin wouldn’t kill him unless he was forced to. This man had done him no wrong.  He would leave him to the enforcers.  “All right, then move away from the door.”  Jamerin motioned with the pistol for him to move to the left.
Parei went to the control panel and used a scan device to identify the mechanism.  Once she identified it, she could visualize the lock and manipulate it to open telekinetically.  Momentarily the door slid open.  As soon as the door opened, the women of several different species scurried to their bunks.  Both she and Jamerin could feel their fear.
“Don’t be afraid,” Parei told them. “We’re here to free you.  Everyone, come with us.”
Slowly, uncertainly, they climbed out of their bunks and tentatively lined up at the doorway and came out of their room one by one.  Parei disabled the com in the cell, and Jamerin made the Tregan empty his pockets and remove his earpiece. Then he motioned for him to go into the cell once all the women had exited.
It was so hard to look at that first generation Tregan and not think about killing him.  It would be so easy to just pull the trigger.  He was remembering how close to death his father had been, how he and Lara had called him back from the brink of death. But, again no.  The Tregan who mortally wounded Hankura had paid with his life.
The Tregan hurried into the cell, expecting any moment to feel the burn of his ion pistol in his back.  Parei locked the door the same way she had unlocked it.  Parei then took the lead position in front of the freed captives and told them with words and gestures to follow her.  Jamerin tossed the pistol into the cargo bay caused the weapon to break apart with telekinesis.  The weapon was only a prop.  He could have simply used his mind to hold the Tregan paralyzed while Parei freed the women.
They passed two crew members on the way out, causing the women to gasp in fear, but the men passed them in the corridor as though they weren’t even there. They left the ship, walking right past the two guards at the entrance who never batted an eye as they left.
Jamerin and Parei took the women to the Starport Security office, to report their abduction.  When they reached the main lobby in front of that office, the rescues took time to thank them before entering the office.  Some of them were crying in relief that they were free and could go home to their families.  Jamerin asked them not to reveal his and Parei’s help in their escape.  There would be questions they didn’t want to answer.  Twenty abductees should be enough to get the slavers arrested and their ship seized.
What they had done was wasn’t illegal, but he Jamerin wasn’t sure if how they had done it was. Considering Otian’s reaction after the pirate incident, he and Parei would be safer if they didn’t have to explain.
Within an hour of their return to Sential Trader, Federation enforcers were seizing the slaver’s ship and arresting the crew. The Feds would see that the women they abducted would be returned to their homes.
Jamerin and Parei got back in time to join the crew for second meal in the dining hall.
“Hey, you two,” Norsen said. “Where did you disappear to---shopping in the village?”
“No,” Parei said.  “Last night, we dreamed there were twenty women on a ship here in port who had been abducted from their homes to be sold on Fodlesh V at the slave auctions.  So we went to find them.”
“We sneaked on the ship and helped them get away,” Jamerin laughed. “They had a Tregan guard and I stole his gun---thought about killing him with it---especially after what those bastards did to Mom and Dad.  But I decided it would raise too many questions ‘cause ion pistols are illegal here.”
For a moment, Norsen’s and several of the crew’s mouths dropped open, then Norsen burst out laughing and the others did, too. “Good one Jamerin. You went to a holo vid theater, right.”
Jamerin laughed and Parei said, “Yeah something like that.  The ending was really great.”  Jamerin reached for her hand under the table and winked at her then reached to pass a casserole dish to the next person waiting for it.
     Their secret was safe.
