The idea of soul mates is a recurrent theme in romance, and especially the alien romances. While I have enjoyed reading some of them, most seem to end when the the woman realizes the hunky alien is her soul mate and they finally copulate. The reader is left to believe they live happily ever after. Of course, happily ever after can be pretty boring. Perhaps that's why most stories end when the hero gets the girl or vice versa. Or when the hero gets the girl, she dies and he must go on with his life without her.The hard truth, is almost nobody lives happily ever after. But you don't just stop loving someone because life gets difficult. At least you shouldn't, and Hankura and Chelle don't. The Aledan: A Psionic Love Story is their story. In the subsequent books, their story continues, but there is also a new romance in each one.
In Journey of Searching Star: Horse Clans Colony, Hankura's and Chelle's relationship continues to evolve as a new couple is introduced whose relationship converges with the "super" couple. I had a lot of fun with that one, and I hope readers will enjoy it as much as I did.
Surviving Zevus Mar explores some difficult subjects when the Searching Star is captured by genetically engineered Tregan super soldiers, raiding Zevus Mar in the Tregan Empire's expansion wars. It addresses subjects of rape and torture and violence. It was disturbing to put my beloved characters through these experiences.
Terrible things happen in wars and people are forced to do terrible things to survive. The simple explanation of where the ideas for the book came from is the nightly news. Looking at the faces of refugees and hearing about the women raped,tortured ,and even murdered because they are on the "wrong" side or practice the "wrong" religion.
I have friends who went to war and came back changed from all they saw and experienced. So I took all of these things and incorporated them into a story set in the distant future on a far away planet. But from the ashes, a new romance evolves, and my characters struggle to go on with their lives after all that had happened to them.
I am currently working on the fourth book in the series, Psi Factor. The Tregans aren't finished with Hankura and Chelle yet. They suspect the pair holds the key to developing super soldiers with psionic abilities in addition to their impenetrable psionic mind shields. This puts the couple and their two children in danger when they are en route to Velran to have their psionic children trained by the Wholaskans in proper use of their psionic abilities.
This is also Delmran's story. His character was introduced in Journey of Searching Star: Horse Clans Colony. He is using Hankura in a covert operation to bring down the fugitive Tregan leadership. He joined the operation to get revenge against the Tregans for what they did to him and the crew of Searching Star at Zevus Mar. When he finds love with his best double agent, he begins to question his motives. But there is a twist, I hope the reader won't see coming.
